Hello just joined, and happy to find some help.
I have a "69" GMC 4x4 shortbox. I have it down to the frame, and can't decide what to do with the front and rear ends. I would like to update them with a rebuild on the rear and hopefully discs on the front. I not sure what I should be looking for year wise. I am open for suggestions. I know what new dana's cost so that is not really a fesible choice. I will appreciate any help.

    Thanks... Robert

RE: Front end/Rear end swap (additi

I found a place with new (old) stuff, It is a military surplus supply. They have the differentials (fits 73-87) with 308 gears, would something like this work for me? I wondered if switching from 373 to 308 would be a bad idea? Price wise they are pretty reasonable. Please help!!!

A newer axle should just bolt in. As far as the gears, it depends on what you want to do with your truck. 3.08s are really only good if you do a lot of highway driving, but if you just want a cheap set of axles to put on they'll be fine, and you can also change them out. The only reason to keep the 3.73s would be if you like your acceleration or you go offroading.
