Here's the way we have been doing most of the fillers for the fuel tanks moved out of the cab. This is an S10 tank with a filler tube from exhaust tubing that has been expanded to fit the tank neck diameter on one end and matches the threaded bung size on the other end. A short piece of fuel hose joins the tube to the tank and to the bung. The cap screws in till tight and then is pushed down and turned a quarter turn so it's flush with the surrounding panel. The caps were used on motorcyle tanks and the cap/bung assembly is offered by several venders. When painted the same color as the panel it's in it is nearly invisable. Pictures with cap in LR of a 52 fender and try to find it on the blue car---about halfway between top of license plate and tail light. Zoom in.

That's a thing of beauty there, Evan! I assume it has a seal to keep water out? I'm sure that sparked some ideas~ I know it did me. ;)
