hey guys zup me again lol,,,i have a 72 350/350 in my 66 gmc short bed truck,,is there a stock exhaust system i can pull from another chevy/gmc truck from the wrecking yrd that will match up without too much trouble? the truck has stock exhaust manifolds on it,,but no exhaust system,,jus wanted to check to see if there wuz b 4 having one built i dont have much money for a while so,,,any help is gud thankyou...
I think you'll have a hard time finding an exhaust system in a wrecking yard that's worth pulling out and bringing home. The longer they sit in the yard the more moisture collects in the mufflers, and not too many vehicles with new exhaust systems end up in a junk yard. Head pipes are also particularly vulnerable if the yard uses a forklift to move the vehicles around. When I needed something in my truck to just drive it around until I could afford better, I bought a pair of cheap glasspacks like shown at the following link: http://www.jegs.com/i/Flowtech/387/50250/10002/-1 I made a couple of turn downs out of scrap exhaust tubing and clamped everything together. Flex tubing from the manifolds to the mufflers will do in a pinch, or head pipes from the parts house designed for a similar year truck may work. It's certainly cheaper than a full custom fabricated system.
kewl i may jus do that then,,im jus try'n to thnk wut i can make the will fit the lil bolt studs from the exhaust manifold,,the piping really isnt a problem its jus finding sum'n to bolt to the stock manifolds,,,im gunna buy single chamber flowmasters fur it tho,,thanks fur the info dewd..
The bad part is that you will probably end up spending just as much, or more, trying to get an exhaust system from a wrecking yard to work than building a new one with all new parts.
Can't argue with THAT... Budget, budget and budget are the three top items to consider with every project. dv
yea im lean'N towards a new system,,since i wuz gunna buy 'single chamber' flowmasters,,,or 40series,,i like the sound of single chamber ones a lil betta,,,and u guys R right bout a new system,,idk if u guys told me but IS THRR A WAY TO HOOK UP 'PIPES' TO THE STOCK MANIFOLDS? the 3 lil bolts from the manifold? and do i need to get those 'heater pieces' that fit inbetween the pipes? srry if thats a dumb question lol,,,thanks fur ur guys help N info tho..
Most muffler/exhaust shops will have those parts. Check around and talk with some of the people at the local shops about your situation. I'd be willing to bet that you'll get a better idea of what it will take and which shops are more willing to work with you on your project than others. Good luck.
yea i will most likely do that i had a shop do sum work on a 'stang' i had,,im'a talk to them ,,,thanxxx dewd...
