Gas gauge problem

why does my gas gauge only work from full to 3/4 then hang?
86 with duel tanks, switch works.....

i've got a 83 chevy and the gas gague works from about half or less to empty. i haven't looked in to the problem but i was hoping that i could find out the problem?thanks

sending units the foam float onthe sending unit is gas logged u can get a unit from chevy duty or advance auto or auto zone i have an 87 and my gas gauge works fine now an 87shortbedstep in the works see ya
