My gas stock gas guage is reading empty with a full tank. I beleive it to be the sending unit. is there a way to test it, before i go and order a new one?
Get a OHM meter and check both ends of the wire. Should read b/t 0-90 Ohm. You can rent one a Auto Crap
Have the same problem With my unit. Someone jury rigged it to try and keep it working. I fied it and havent had any issues since.
Your float might be bad or popped off. The sending unit could be jammed up and can't stide up or down. Make sure you have a good ground. If you pull the sending unit hook it up to an ohm meter. Move the float all the way up on then all the way down. The ohm meter should range from 0 to 90 ohms. I you are reading in the milli ohms range just count that as 0.
ok if you look closely in my pic you can see where they re wired the unit and left EVERYTHING EXPOSED. and then they didnt get the Ground on it right. I had the shield the internal wiring and re route the ground before i got it to work again.
sometime the Dash voltage regulator goes bad if it has one at all check the sending voltage should read a steady 5 volts
