gas milage

hey with gas as high as it is, it is really a burden to drive my truck. i have a built 350 600 edelbrock carb, and am looking into getting my carb re-jetted and re-mettered for better gas, afterwards, i would like to get about 10-13mpg. right now i get about 5-7mpg. on the highway.

You might want to look at a gear change or 700R4 swap. It is a little expensive but you will really see the diffrence.

When people ask me what kind of mileage I get in my 59 Apache, I say,"Who cares?" I don't drive it for the mileage. The 350 with Muncie 4 speed doesn't help either.

Well I have a built 454, punched out to 468, 750 carb, Rv2 Cam, Turbo 400, 33 inch tires, 410 gears. At 60 mph I get 12 miles per gallon. This on a 79' 4X4

I had a 305 with a 2 barrel carb hooked to a granny 4 speed with 3 : 70 rear in my 64 C10 panel. Best mileage was around 9 mpg.

Swapped to a GM HO 350 crate motor and 700 R4 trans, left the rear alone.
Best mileage so far ? How about 18 around town and 21 on the freeway.
The GOOD thing is, the truck "feels" the same around town as it did before because of the 1st thru 3rd gearing.

I have a ZZ4 in my 37 with a Tremic T5 trans with 3 :50 rear and get 21 on the freeway at a 70 MPH average.

Gotta love those overdrive transmissions !

My 2007 Chevy Truck will run on E85, reading a artical in a truck magizine last night about add on part for older motors to run on E85 it was pretty interesting to read.

Be it manual (Tremec) or automatic (700R4)... it is insane... well unwise anyway... not to have OVERDRIVE! Not only for mileage, but for quiet in the cab and for engine wear. Sound level in the cab at 3100 rpm is much higher than at 1900 rpm.

The only reason you might NOT need it is if you don't ever really go anywhere.

Raising Fuel Milage

Gear Vendors makes a nifty overdrive to put onto most any slushbox tranny

I always select my tires very carefully to be tall and not any wider than necessary as that helps more than you'd think by both reducing rolling resistance and reducing engine RPM's at all speeds .

I'd love to see 15 MPG out of my '49 3100 with Muncie SM420 and '57 235 6 banger engine ....
