I installed a new Gas sending unit,55..235 3/4...I have 2 wires to hook up to the unit. I notice on the wireing diagram it shows 1 wire coming out of the unit...Can anyone walk me thru this proceedure? Thanks Mike gaff. gafcob2002@aol.com
If you have not put the sending unit into the tank yet and you have an ohm meter check to make sure the sending unit is electrically correct for your truck before installing it. I am assuming you are using a stock gas gauge. With the float in the "down" (empty) position you should read zero ohms between the two connections. With the float in the "up" (full) position you should read around 30 ohms between the two connections. With the float in the "up" position one of the connections should read zero ohms measured to a clean metal surface on the mounting flange. That connection is added in case you have problems getting a good ground through the metal of the tank to the frame of the truck. It is probably not needed, but it wouldn't hurt to run a wire from it to sheet metal at the floor behind the tank. The other connector is the one to connect to the wire that goes to the gas gauge. If it were me and my truck was otherwise operational I'd test the whole system by hooking up the electrics to the sending unit before putting it into the tank.
