I'm looking to replace my rusty gas tank in my '53 3100 truck. There seems to be several choices at different prices. Can anyone give a recommendation of a good replacement gas tank? Thanks...Tony
I have used the one from Classic Parts Tony, I thought I had a leaky tank too but as it turns out the hoses to the tanks were just leaking. Before I figured that out though I bought this one from Classic Parts: http://www.classicparts.com/1949-54-Gas-Tank-New/productinfo/23-923/ Seems to work just fine and I am glad I have replaced it but now I have my old original tank taking up my limited room in my garage. I'm trying to sell it on Craigslist but as you can image there does not seem to be a big demand for a 50+ year old gas tank. I think the one from Classic seems to be as good as a replacement as any but you could also try this one from LMC: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/ca/full.aspx?Page=75 I am very new to this forum though and extremely new to this restoration thing so I am sure some of the more seasoned people on here can give you some better answers - Good Luck!!!
Spectra Premium tanks made in Canada are the only ones I have heard about that are exact duplicates of the original and fit without issues. I have one of their tanks and I am very pleased with it. I have not tried any of the others but several people have reported fitment issues. Chuck
I give as much business to Classic Parts as possible. That's where I got my tank from, although it's not yet installed. Haven't heard anyone complain about their tank, though.
