Need some advice about my fuel tank. The guy I bought the truck from said the fuel guage was not accurate because he thought that the float sticks. I did not know how much fuel was actually in it and I ended up topping the tank on Saturday and immediately remembered that this was not a good thing to do. Strong odor of fuel in the cab and leaking on left turns. I got home and siphoned off a few gallons but now I am somewhat worried about the integrity of the tank itself. I took the seat out to get a good look at it - picture attached. I think the gasket at the top definately needs to be replaced but I am wondering if I should go ahead pull the whole thing out and have it cleaned and checked. I even thought about just replacing the tank and line from the fuel pump back but saw some earlier posts about the replacement tanks and that folks have not had good experience with them. What do you guys think?

Yank that sucker out and have it de-rusted then re-lined , PDQ ! the re-pops mostly leak and are dangerous as they'll pop in even a minor accident .

Look in your 'phone book under " Gas Tank ReNu " .

Stewart Warner gauge Co. still makes the better quality cork gasket for the sender , this gasket is a standard item so it's available anywhere , even your dealer will have it , same as 1970 C-10.....

Use good quality gas tank filler hose on the neck , NAPA or any REAL auto parts store (truck shop) will have a dusty lenght of it on the shelf...
