Hello, I have a problem that is really weird...first truck specs

    '87 Chevy
    FUEL INJECTION
    Shortwheelbase
    350 V8
    Overdrive Transmission
    Duel Gas Tanks

When I first got the truck...a few idiots had ripped the motor out of it and butchered the wiring....very lovely...after rebuilding the motor and transmission, I have run into a few problems...one of them is the gas tanks. BEFORE I took the bed off and replaced the gas tanks, the switch would work fine and would run the truck off both tanks. After installing the new tanks, my passenger side tank would not respond...we tried a new switch, but then neither tank would respond....

***NOTE*** I believe it may be the gas pumps...but I need a second opinion...I did not replace the pumps, just the tanks. Both pumps worked before, but not after....we checked ground wires and cleaned the paint off the frame to make good connection with raw metal......if you have any advice please share...

    Thanks

Did you check to see if any positive voltage was being supplied to the pumps? If the wiring had been butchered, there's a chance something "disconnected" (pulled apart) the positive source, or maybe bare positive wires grounded out and blew a fuse. If you have a test light, this would be a simple and quick test.

Well tonight was a long night...I spent 9 hours pulling my bed and tanks and replacing the pumps inside....after we had put the first one in...or the left hand tank...that tank still wouldn't work...
so we tried the next one...dropped it....opened it...put the pump in and put it back up in there and the truck fired right off and ran smooth...no more choppiness...then we discovered that the left tank had a crimp in 1 of the 3 lines running to the gas tanks....so we uncrimped the line and sure enough the truck busted right off...although we have a problem with the in dash switch....we can't change tanks while the truck is running...you must power down and let the relay reset...then you can start up on the other tank....if anyone has any pointers let me know...thanks
