gear selector hung in third

    Well i was in reverse,backed up a few feet- went to go to first and missed went to third, then when i tried to go back to neutrual to go to first it was hung up in third
    had to get out and move the 2/3 gear lever to neutral position
    of course had to turn off engine as it was stuck running in third- any ideas?

    If you're talking about a column shift, there's been plenty of comments about this on recent posts. Good Luck!

    Yes , look in the archives under stuck tranny , three on the tree , square shifting or posative shifting , tranny woes etc.

    Once you've removed all the old rock hard grease from the shift selector and adjusted it as best you can then shimmed the shift rods so they're not floppy , then adjust the rods into the tranny arms with the shift lever dead level @ 3:00 and the tranny in neutral , then teach yourself " Square Shifting " and pretty soon it'll be a thing of the past....

    Nate I did all you said and its shifting smoother, i got the hang of the square shifting -thanks for the tutorial, its a liitle differrent than four speed ,posi, and headers shifting. shitting and gettin -Thanks for all the help
    So far so good with no hanging up.

    Good deal ! the more you drive these old rigs , the smoother they get .

    Don't forget to keep the tranny topped up with gear oil , they like to drip it out even when parked so they're genrally low and then the synchro hubs drag....

    A 1/2" NPT magnetic drain plug is a wise addition to your tranny .
