I am looking to replace the pumpkin in my 69c30, because at 55 mph i can barely stand the engine noise. What is the lowest 10 bolt ratio out there, and does any one have one i can buy? I am desperate, bought the truck for 800, and i do not hink i have ever used first gear. Is there such thing a 2.9/2.7 even?

Sounds like you have a 4:10 rear. I think that that carrier can only go down to 3.73. It's a slight change and will make a small differance. You can change the carrier and the gear set if you want to like a 3:08 for highway cruising. For another option look a doing a 700R4 swap. It's like reducing your highway RPM's about 1000 RPM's. Here is a good source for ideas on what you will need www.boetieoverdrives.com . They are spendy but a good source for what is involved. I did my swap in my driveway and the only thing I could do myself is trimming 2 1/2" off the drivshaft. Currently I am getting around 18MPG highway with a 283 V8, 4:10's and a 700R4.
