I've got 4 generators. 2 have Delco-Remy tags with only model & ser. #'s, the other 2 are part store remans. with no tags at all, none of them indicate whether they are 6v or 12v. Is there any way to tell the difference by looking at them or maybe a way to bench test them at home, so as not to have to take them all into the parts store to be tested? Thanks for any help.

    Too bad you didn't "search"

Two posts down from yours you would have found Nate's which says "the RED DELCO tags means it's a 12 volt unit."

Thanks Bill, I saw the post about "red tags" but as I mentioned 2 of them are generic rebuilds with no tags or ID what so ever. Just though there might be an easy way to determine if 6v or 12v.

You should be able to check by testing the field circuit with an ohm meter.....

Or , just run 'em and full field them @ 500 RPM or so and see what they put out
