Glass setting tape

Cmon guys, someone out there knows the answer to this.......

I have a 47 truck with the metal frame which wraps all round the door glass in 2 halves and no vent windows. Ive soaked the glass setting tape in motor oil to get it tacky, but now what??????? :)

Ive tried folding the tape in half down the length a bit at a time into the channel then sliding the glass in but it just ruffles up around the radii of the upper frame and the glass wont go in properly and when its all caked in oil the slippery bugger nearly end up on the floor!!!!

The tape isnt sticky enough to stick to the glass first either then slide it into the channel as it just keeps falling off.

There has to be an easy method of doing this, Im thinking maybe juggling 3 seals and a burning stick and hopefully it will fall together.

Although that may be my best option so far, can anyone suggest any alternatives.

I will use the urethane now, Its half of what I expected but I didn't know if there were any fundamental reasons why I couldn't.

Great in-depth description of your restoration ol' chebby Ive been reading it over recent weeks to get some ideas how the stuff goes back together now all the pretty pieces are getting painted.

Charr, I promise to put some pics on very very soon now Im getting a collection of them, its my first American vehicle, and its certainly been a learning curve and esp something this old as well. I still end up trying to convert imperial spanner sizes into metric to try and work out which is bigger..........

Ah clutch head screw drivers!!!!

I have a set of them now, Id never seen that type of head before I bought this truck.

Oh the colourful language when I saw them hahaha I thought it was Americas way of annoying the brits at the time!!! Im there with all sorts of screwdrivers, filing them down to make them fit the holes thinking, someone across the pond is laughing at me right now hahaha.

Oh well lessons learned :)

Yes , I'm one of the millions of Yanks who love Little British Cars.... I tried the Sporting versions but in the end I settled on the Austin built Nash Metropolitan and I drive mine hard , far & wide , loving every moment .

That's _NOT_ " Turquoise " !

....It's BERKSHIRE GREEN and was the original color of my Met DHC......

Not sure of the owner, but the car was spotted at the Klein Show and Shine last weekend. I didn't get to go to the event as my Social Director volunteered me to help move our daughter (again) into her new house. Hopefully she'll stay in this one for more than 6 months.
 
Hey Guys, new problem has arisen and I know your the guys in the know.

I have fitted an electric windscreen wiper motor and all the arms and blades.

Having switched on the wiper motor the 2 arms move up from the centre of the screen, the passengers side travels past the vertical position hence clearing more of the screen, but the drivers side stops just short of vertical which is bang in line with my line of sight.

There is an adjustment slot on the bracket at the bottom which when I turn on the motor and slide the motor in the slot, it makes no fricken difference what so ever......the drivers side still doesnt clear as much as the passengers side.

Do I need to adjust the motor on the 2 big bolts which mount it perhaps??? All the dash is fitted up with clocks, radio and speaker grill, I dont really wanna start pulling it all apart.

Any Ideas? Tally Ho for now.

Nah they both sit at the same height when the motor is parked about an inch from the rubber. :(
 
There are 2 screws at the top of the motor mount. You can loosen these slightly and rock the motor back and forth until you get the movement you are looking for. You may then have to re index your wiper arms.
 
:( I feared as much, looks like the dash is coming apart to access the motor, unfortunately I dont have arms like Mr Tickle lol

Hey Cheb, I tried I really did, but I tightened the 2 bolts sooo tight the buggers wont budge and with everything else in the way its a little cramped

I found out the problem anyway. The main nut on the motor shaft was loose. if you tighten that and then slide the motor left and right on the slot the wiper arms move to where you need them, within reason, they call it fine adjustment. In my world that usually involves a hammer hahaha. Job done anyway :)

I dare say there will more help I need when I encounter then next problem ..........
