I have been working on pieceing together the '49 GMC engine 228.
The oil line coming off the front that runs to the oil filter and up to the head by the thermostat.
Well, I am going full oil flow filter, so those lines will come off the block on the drivers side.
The question is do I need to run the line up to the head too?

These lines are partial oil flow so they're for a by-pass typ of filter .

If you're planning to plumb a full flow typ of filter into the main feed line then yes , you'll still need to continue them to the original end points .

I am not entirely sure I understand your question .
