1st the bad. I've been driving the truck to work daily for the last couple of months. Noticed that the oil pressure started dropping to 0 about 5 seconds after start up & thought it was a faulty gauge. Started it up to leave for home yesterday & it immediately started knocking...badly! I limped home frustrated because if you recall I went through the same thing less than a year ago!. The good news is I found another 350 from a '79 vette that a guy had rebuilt two years ago for a project but he never installed, never fired. According to him, it was built to about 350hp. He'd invested a couple of grand but now just wanted to sell. He was asking $800, I got it for $550! It came with a new Performer RPM intake, a rebuilt 600 Performer carb & a set of old headers! I figure that I can sell the carb & intake for at least $200! & bring my total investment to $350! Not bad! Not bad at all!
That sounds pretty good. Hopefully it is good to go and you can keep rolling without any more problems for years and miles to come.
Sorry to hear about more trouble, I'm thinking your surely going to get out from under the cloud that's been following you around. The good news is, you should be real good and quick at swapping small blocks. Probably know every wrench you'll need.
I started the swap yesterday, as I was draining the fluids from the old engine i discovered why it was knocking... no oil!! . Only about a quart! Now I'd checked the level about a month ago & it was good but something horribly wrong since then. I did notice that the front suspension seemed to have a light coating of oil when I took off the front cap but i never saw any pools on the ground.
Whoops ! In the future , always check the oil daily until you know it's o.K. then weekly . I cannot imagine ever waiting longer than two weeks to check the oil in anything I own . I hope this new engine is the best one yet .
Hang Tough ! Just like your CHEVROLET TRUCK and you'll get there in due time . How did you land a cushy 12 hour day routine ? . If I can get to bed before 18 hours I'm stoked even though I can't sleep . I'm too dang old & broken down to keep doing this .
I've been short staffed for quite awhile. Workload has increased 170% & the hiring process with the gov't is slooooooow. I've been without an assistant almost a year, but just learned last week that an offer was made to a candidate so hopefully she'll be here by Thanksgiving. Hoping to get the approval to hire more purchasing agents to offset the workload increase.
Government Hiring Odd thing that , right ? . I was hired within three months of my application . Usually you're lucky to get picked up within a year .
Glad to "hear" it, Robert!!! Looks and sounds absolutely GREAT! Next, may I request a video of you toolin' down the street? Thank you for the video!
Thanks for the link to your truck running Robert. Really sounds good, I was checking out the sounds on the other videos, of Mary J., Whitney, and Monica which has me listening to one of my favorite Youtube flicks of Monica and Mary J. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uITy0hersww My favorite Misty Blue however is Dorothy Moore's. Anyway back to the trucks sorry about the wondering off there.
Nate, gonna get new exhaust run next week. I'll get that vid for you then. Not sure what mufflers I'm going to end up with, but leaning towards just some simple turbos. Thought about flow masters but I don't want to make that much noise!
That SOUND Okey - Doke , I'll be waiting right here...... When he was 18 or so , my Son got a big ol' turbo muffler and added it to his '73 Datsun PL620 pickup truck ~ I warned him it'd sound really bad but kids ya know . It just mooed and vibrated REALLY LOUDLY ~ I could hear my house windows begin to rattle & buzz when he was a block away . He lasted maybe two weeks before taking it back off again .
