    I'm at a loss as to exactly how my spare tire carrier works. I can visualize most of it except for where the hook attaches at the top.

    The attached pictures show the back end of the truck and the spare tire carrier. Where does the hook attach?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ken

    Underbed Spare Tire Carrier

    Ken ;

    That's a funny looking one ~ maybe for 8 lug wheels ? :confused:

    Anyways , the usual ones are mounted at a 45° angle with the inner end on the left ,mouting stud goes into the left frame rail and there's a hole for it .

    Right side gets the rearward end and the J hook (IIRC) holds the front end of it and you need another , different bolt to hold the rear end of it , as there's a funny looking nut that screws up onto it , passing through a key hole shaped hole I don't see in your picture .

    If you go to the home page and look in the flies of photos , there's a diagram of two different typs of underbed carrier , the sliding typ (pre '51) and the cross typ , different but similar to the one you have there... maybe you can print out the diagram and crawl under the frame and figure it out ? or look in the '53 owner's manual or the assembly manual ~ I'm @ SWMBO's house so all my books are far away right now , sorry buddy .

    Bad Angle on earlier pic

    Nate, it's the original carrier that came on the truck.

    Larry, thanks a million for the pic. It all came together when I saw your setup.

    Here's a shot of mine at a different angle.
