Hardy-Har-Har TB'sD. You could save us some asking time and just go ahead and tell us how installing that glass went. That's one of a brazillion things that I gotta do yet. Your truck looks so slick it's not even funny! (I'm still wondering if its's the shine from your garage walls that gives that luster...?) I would LOVE step-by-steps for replacing the front and back glass! (Bad leaks-caulked for now...) Have a G-R-E-A-T day tomorrow-K? She's to close to leavin'...:(

Hey 47- Good for you! These old ADs need to be in the hands that'll love 'em! I've thought heavily on the 350 thing too, so yes- please- lots of pics! Will it bolt up to the original tranny? I've seen a 283 that way (I guess), but a 350- hmmm. There are lots of great driveline option posts here. your choices are many! Figure out what you want your truck to do, and these guys will give you so much advice- you won't know what to do!

    Glass install

Hey, it's not that hard at all... Me and the Boop installed the front in about 10 minutes... Here's how

    1. Put both sides of glass in the rubber
    2. carry to prepared truck
    3. put a strong small cord all the way around the rubber meeting back where you started.
    4. have someone hold the glass outside in the correct place
    5. pull the cord and that will pull the rubber flap to the inside and it's that simple

    6. use the correct weather strip cement/caulk only on the outside. I used black. If you get a little too much it will wipe off and the rest will simply peel off when it is dry.

that is one of the easiest jobs.

The back window works the same. The front weather strip will be kinda loose or at least mine did. I don't know if the original fit tight but the aftermarket didn'nt

The back was fairly tight but easy to install, now the rear weather strip retainer rubber was a little hard to get in until if thought to use some olive oil to make the tool slip around the groove. I think... you must have the tool, I don't know how you would get it in without it.

    That's my 3 cents worth:D

Good to hear you're getting it back ! .

IIRC , a small block bell housing from the late 50's or early 60's will get your tranny up against a 350 , I know many here have V-ates and so one will soon come along to tell you how that's done .

As mentioned , take lots of pix as it'll be apart for a while and things that looked obvious when you took it apart , won't three months later ...

Tip for installing glass, use waxed string, can be hard to find or you can wax it yourself by running it back and forth across a candle, wrap the ends round a short piece of wooden dowel and wind the excess round it as you pull more string out, the dowel is easier to pull than wrapping it round your hand, when you get near the end pull on one end and hold onto the other to stop the string just pulling through the rubber and leaving you with 6 inches of rubber on the wrong side of the frame.

    Glass Installation

I like to use Nylon cord as it's very slippery and you want slippery .

I've also had good luck with plastic covered wire .

To install : put the glass in the rubber grommet then put the chrome trim in the grommet then wrap the cord around the grommet in the Pinchweld groove , have a helper -gently- hold the glass in place as you draw the cord in from inside , this will flip the lip up and over the Pinchweld , it sounds harder than it is , after you've done it a few times it's easier .

I've done more VW's than I could count , my truck , I used a cheapo-creepo Taiwanese rubber that SUCKED and three of us (two were professional glassmen) wrestled with it for over an hour and it _still- leaks in the rain ! .

Buy good rubber from Steele Rubber Co. , not CD's crappy stuff like I did :( .
