    Hello Gentlemen.
I am also new at this web sight and I have a lot of questions but I guess I will start with this one.I just bought a 1952 GMC one ton truck and I was wondering if this is the stock grill for this truck. It looks a little short from side to side and it only has 4 bars across instead of 5.I guess my question would be,Is the grill from a half ton or a three quarter the same width as a one ton.I am just now getting ready to jump into this truck and get it running so all the advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance for your time.John

    Yeah, Baby!!!

    That is THE grille!!!:D

Why, that's the ONLY grille to have!!!:D

Sigh~ Can'tcha just hear all those Chevy guys chins start to quiver at the site of such a manly grille?:D Oh John, that is the right grille. It looks like you have the turn signal issue covered, but I'd suggest loosing those Chevy signals tacked to the top of your grill. That just aint right...:p

Here's good news! GMC trucks are worth w-a-y more than those Chevy trucks with "the extra bar". I think they gave Chevy an extra bar because they're trying to make up for something else~ Just thinking... Say, a shorter engine block???

Anyway, WELCOME!!! It's great to see that beautiful GMC mug face on!!!
The advice you get here is great stuff. They are a forgiving bunch, too. Heck, they put up with me, so that's saying A LOT!!!!

    Welcome to the nut house!

Hey John, welcome! Sounds like you're suffering from Chevy grille envy! There is nothing wrong with your grille, other than the fact that it is, indeed, a GMC grille!:D Short, squatty, and otherwise, just not right!

The only thing that I can tell is not correct is the parking lights mounted in the grille. Those are Chevy lights. Your parking lights are the round ones mounted in the fenders.

If Jimmys are like chevys, the grilles should be interchangable from 1/2 ton and up. Send of some more pics! Us chevy guys love to make fun of them butt-ugly jimmys. (nothing personal, just good ol' ribbing;)).

    Wanna see a pretty grille?

    Another BEAUTIFUL GMC!

Just thought I'd post some pictures of my 3/4, so you could see why GMC is clearly more beautiful than the Chevy counterpart. Chevy is OK, but it's just not a G:D;):p

...of course it's not running, either. ...And I'm hoping that these guys will help me put it back together with their advice...

Guess I'm ~cross threaded~ (I'd say "screwed, but this is a family site...)

hey alright another G!!!! look out chevy guys the beautiful G's are takin' over. if you get rid of the chevy turn signals you can get a duel filament bulb conversion for your front park lights so you can connect the turn signals to the front of the truck.

Also for 3/4 ton and larger trucks this site is very knowledgeable. http://oldgmctrucks.infopop.cc/eve
This site is great, everybody is so nice and helpful, and very knowledgeable on practically everything!

ps i too have a 52 gmc 3/4 ton though

this is my dad and i bleeding the brakes. its been a lot of work to get it going, but its been fun too.

i remember my dad letting me "drive" when i was 3-4 yrs old, down the old dirt roads to the junk yard. he can remember his dad doing the same thing also! thats what these trucks are all about;)

    Hi John !

WELCOME !! (note the clever use of GMC red there)

You'll soon find that although your old truck is FUGLY beyond belief , it's l o n g motor is a real stormer and will do you well .

Lotsa inter-species ribbing goes on here so don't get upset , us Chevy guys have the looks , style and popularity (not to mention the BABES !) but we also suffer significant " Long Motor Envy"
so it all balances out in the end :D

Hey thanks Wolf for the link.I will check it out.I am not sure what the controversy is about Chevy versus GMC.They are both made by General Motors.I have always heard the GMC is the Cadilac of Chevys:p.I used to have a 1972 GMC Jimmy and the only difference between it and the Blazer was the the Jimmy had dual head lights.Everything else was the same.I hope you guys are having a good evening.Thalk to ya later.John

    Not Quite

    The deal is John ;

Back in the time your AD was built , GMC's were built using a vastly better engine , they were Medium Duty trucks where the Chevy was a light duty truck .

GMC's had full pressure oiling to the crankshaft when Chevy still had 1920's tech splash and spray lubrication to the connecting rods .

GMC also had 7 main bearings whilst Chevy soldiered on with only 5 .

GMC's supposedly had a " rust proof frame " but they all seem to rust the same .

The fun begins when the Chevy and GMC guys square off like brand 'F' Va. GM guys do but it's all in fun .

To get the sexy chevy grill you will have to change hoods. I think GMC made them that way so it would not need grill gaurds. Maybe 5 bumpers is better than 1 for people who dont drive too good.
