If the hand brake doesn't work what is the best way to repair this item. Also my 3 speed on the column hangs or crosses up can anyone tell me how to fix this. Also can you use the same column shifter and make it work with a automatic.

Hand Brake; You will need to diagnose WHY it isn't working before determining how to fix it. It could be a few things. Check that you actually have cables running to the rear hubs, that those cables are connected to a pivot type deal above the trans, that there is a return spring on that piviot, that the cable is connected from that pivot to the hand brake lever, and that all cables are tight, but not too tight.

Trans: Is the one you have now a three speed Auto ? Or standard?
You can't take a manual shift column and make it work with an auto.
(that may have answered the last question)
Sloppy shifter linkage will cause all kinds of problems.
Start at the column and check that the grommets on the shifter tangs are not worn, (or gone), then look at the linkage mechanism for bends and other things that can cause real grief. Finally, check that the trans linkage connections are all tight.

Try placing the shifter in the netural position, and make sure the trans is also in netural when you start to tighten things up.

Thanks for the input. What about using the 3 speed shifter to work with an automatic tranny. Would like to keep it on the column without changing the original parts
