Remember why we are celebrating, who has gone before us and what they have done. Be shure to take the old truck out today and stretch her legs a little. Lets see some pic.s of trucks and fireworks!

Took the truck into Fillmore and Piru, a show was at Fillmore just to many people got there a little to late. Was sure a nice ride through the mountains, a lot of good looking rides all over the place. Happy 4th to all.

    Good deal ! .

As it turned out , I spent the whole day on SWMBO's nice patio running the three BBS' @ full tilt boogie , we now have sufficient meat for an army , I'm betting out 5 Foster boys will eat it all to-day though  I rigged out SWMBO's Lap Top and was OnLine whilst cooking and having fun with her .

Around 3:30 PM I headed home and got my old 1959 Metropolitan Nash out , drove to the annual L.A. Cretins MC rooftop blowout , they had live band , food vendors , cheap beers (! $2.00 !) Bike Babes :p kids running loose , pool , fun and frivolity , kids running wild with pyrotechnics , so on and so forth , I bailed @ midnight , or at least tried to , the light switch on my Met gave up the ghost , it took me a while to find a bit of scrap 1/8" round steel to work up a hot wire for the lights...

I have some spare switches and will prolly do a DIY ' How To rebuild ' at next months Met Tech Session

Driving back to SWMBO's place around 01:00 Sunday , Southbound on the infamous Harbor Freeway , I could see across L.A. for 30 miles and still lots of Mortar typ Pyrotechnics going off in every direction.... it was *very* pretty .

Looks like Air Support was grounded for the night , we were right near Hooper Heliport (L.A.P.D.'s central air facility) and I never saw one bird .

    Thanks, Russ!

Here in little old Pittsburg, the city said it didn't have enough money to put on a firework display. The business owners got together and put up enough money for this year AND next year's production. We went to see the display last night. It was ... better than any year I've ever seen here!
A pretty awesome feeling of hope.
    God bless.

I hope you all had a great 4th as well. Tomorrow I'll start putting a roof on my home for AD, so I'll be that much closer to being here bugging you guys for info about how to reassemble my truck!

I just hope all those people who blew enough money to not only pay for my new roof, but for the labor to install it, remember (or think about) why they stayed up until 12 at night blowing the heck out of the night sky.

Its the simple things in life.

My wife's friends from the city, a little down on their luck came up to visit with the kids 7, 10, 12. I took them to my cabin over in Poor Valley. No phone, computer, TV or electric games.

They were introduced to the Poor valley life, a good ole' tree tire swing, a rope swing over the lake, an axe to cut camp fire wood and my old single shot pellet gun. Mixed with cards and game boards and scary stories at night. Mother nature provided the class room, the deer have their spoted fawns, everybody learned the hard way to identify Poison Ivy.

By the end of the week the woods sang with laughter, we got some good safe shooters and enough firewood to keep the fire going another week. With no one to play with besides each other they really bonded. The big brother was actually helping the little sister get up the rope swing.

I thought when they left that this was a one time deal, none of us will be the same when we come togather again. It was a great 4th!!

    Nasty Spiders in thar'

We have cedar shavings to throw in thar' nowadays, Nate. The girls would'nt use the "privey" too many spiders and the paper was soggy. We have indoor too, fortunately.

At first the boys couldn't believe you could just let it fly in the great outdoors. By the end of the week they wouldn't shower anywhere but in the cold outdoor shower. That is til' I told them about Ol' Slewfoot the Blackbear.

I'd forgotten the fun of digging your own worms and the sublime pride that goes with catching your first 8 inch Sunfish with them. Bologna sandwiches on white bread with chips, after you been pulled around the lake on a inner tube for hours tastes real good too.

Its pretty quiet around here now....lonesome too. I guess I'll get back to work on the 53' and plan on labor day.:)
