Here's wishing you all a happy and safe Labor Day weekend ! . Please remember : folks fought and died for the right to join labor Unions and this raised the standard of living in America to what it is to-day so no matter what you think of Unions they've done well by you . BTW : if you fire up the barbie , I like skinless chicken and red onions toasted whole....
Nate, I had no idea that Labor Day started because of unions. I looked it up and the first one was in 1882. I don't care much for unions but I will still take a day off. Gater
At one time Hobo’s had a union their own. Unions are a required piece of American Furniture. We would be earning the same wages as people in Mexico, Bangladesh, and Chinese slave factories just to name a few without them. I will enjoy this weekend because of them. Nate, how do you like your steaks? That's what I plan to cook at least once this weekend! And I'm behind you all of the way on unions, as long as they are run in the fashion in which they were intended! Everybody enjoy and be safe!
Properly Cooked Foodstuffs I like all my foods like I like my women ~ well done ! Judging by the condition of my various old vehicles , I like them well done (or maybe almost all done !) too.... I ll bring some chips & slsa , the stuff from NEW YORK CITY ! As it turns out by curious happenstance , when I went to Joan's funeral Tuesday , I found a small local newspaper whilst slurping coffee and it had an insert from a Chiropractor who claims to do the neck/shoulder pain thing so I called and he's seeing me to-moorw @ High Noon ~ wish me luck guys ! . Good luck finding an honest Union , I'm a part of the little SIEU group , used to be Local 347 untill the big SIEU bulldozed us (absorbed) over ALL our members screaming protests so we'll see what happens but still and all , I'm not working for slave wages and I have a passable retirement package coming in less than 10 years . I'm a BIG union booster , the members who get involved are the ones who make it or break it... -Nate
Sorry, Nate... I can't believe I'm writing this, but sorry, Nate. I made other plans. Don't hate me, but after seeing that delectable piece of flaming metlon of Andy's- that's where I'm heading!!!! How can you blame me? L-O-O-K at that plump, juicey, cap. Andy, I'm on my way!
Nate, We were swollowed up into the 721 as any others were. I'm was part of the old 998. Charles (ccharr) '48 3804 registered as a '47 or so the vin# indicates
Unions brought us 40 hour work weeks, overtime, benefits, safe work places, retirement, etc... Love them or not, we all benefit from the union organization of our grandfathers and others. Its a quality of life deal good for everyone, even folks not involved in unions. This is not to say that labor and management in America haven't had their set backs, but it isn't all about money, it's about what's fair. I'll cook for whoever shows up. Deer sausage, chicken, brisket, pig or whatever. Just my 2 cents. Jim
I have been white collar all my life. My dad was white collar all his life. My granddad was white collar on my mom's side and a farmer on my dad's side. So, I have heard generations of crap about having to deal with unions. The company that I work for has been in business for 86 years and employees 11,000 and has never had a union. I feel like I have gotten where I am by getting a degree and working for the last 26 years as hard as I can and as smart as I can. I can't see where unions have affected me. Besides, I don't know when I last worked a 40 hour week. So, I am not really putting them down. I have just never heard anything good about them given my history. Gater
I don't know... Seems like the union has helped women and minorities anyway. (not to mention pay) There have been a few really good TRUE movies about this subject, and that makes their existence worth whatever pain they may have caused. As far as a 40 hour work week, raise your hand if that's a teacher's life once school starts. Then, raise your hand if you think we grade all those papers and plan the following weeks worth of stuff while your child is setting in their seat. Please don't. Weekends? nope. Evenings? Not unless I want a bigger pile of papers to grade. I love my job, though. It's more like a hobby as far as pay goes. I couldn't think of anything more important to do with my life than to help young minds realize that- "Winners never quit, quitters never win". We build the future. We need help. Yours. Happy Holiday. We all work hard and care about what we do. No one is wrong with that.
Well ; Tha facts of the matter are Gater , White collar folks used to treat the workers terribly untll the Unions came in and showed them that unless they rana good shop , the threat of the workers organizing and screwing up things was real . so many good people did the right thing , don't kid your self for one minute that all management would have followed your people's example cause it isn't so . Zig , after parents , you may just have the singlemost important job in our society and it's a doggoned shame that most teachers (esp. public school) are WAY underpaid . I'm a parent who raised up a boy in the ghetto in a crappy school disctrict that had over a 50 % dropout rate when he was in High School , good thing when he was in grade School I began working with his teachers to ensure he had good study habits and lots of extra homework by the time he was 5. we were extremely lucky in his grade school as it had wonderful principals and motivates teachers who were willing to work with me so my child's future carreer oportunities never in cluded ' do you want fries with that ? ' . his grade school was in the L.A. Barrio so most of his classmates were in gangs by the time they were 6 years old . He graduated at the top of his class with a 4.0 GPA . I met some terrible lazy , tenured (means cannot be fired) techers as the years rolled by , he was frustrated with them but like I told him : life is not fair so you have to learn to roll with it's punches and figure out a way to persavere and move ahead . Some poor folks are like crabs in a barrel ~ if they see one of thier own moving to-wards the top , they reach up and pull him back down . Wel , enough ranting for one morning I should think , I'm soon to be off to my new Chiro's first visit , let's hope that goes well . Sorry I couldn;t get the flight to Texas booked , I'll have to miss the real BBQ as Ca. doesn't have a clue about real BBQ sad to say .
Chiro Appt. Sadly no ~ this new Dr. seems to be the real deal though ~ he said he cannot make any adjutments untill he's seen my X-rays and by the time those were done the office was closed , I was his last patient for the day . Dammit . He says he's a neck specialist and it is obvoius I has a serious problem so I'll go back next friday and we'll see what's what . Gater , if you ever have a weekend , thank the Unions as there would be NO WEEKENDS without them . period .
That is what is great about our Nation, We can speak our mind, and agree to not agree. Those 3804's we drive were, Made in America and Union Made. Happy Holiday Charles
