Harmonic balancer

The rebuilt one should take care of the problem but....If you are on a tight budget....
I would goop it up with JB weld epoxy before I tried welding the balancer to the crankshaft

This should get the job done hopefully, if not the 58 engine will get rebuilt and a automatic tranny will go in it after I get the Green 52 going. I may try and start it this weekend if I have the time.

Just picked the truck up from the mechanic and the noise is gone. Many thanks to Joe, Evan and Nate for the help in getting this solved so I can drive it back and forth from here to to Az. and enjoy it.

Dampner dudes rebuild

They replaced the Harmonic Balancer and it is so nice not hear all that noise anymore.

Sounds like you really dodged a bullet here .

I wonder of the rubber was shot or the balancer was loose on the crankshaft .

I have four thin wall i6 engines here , two have damper bolts , two do not , I am amazed the damper didn't walk right off the nose of the crank .

The dampner was loose but still tight, I wanted the guys to drill out the crank but they had never done that and I could not get them that kit Vintage Aire sells for drilling the cranks fast enough. It is on, and the truck actually has less vibrations while running down the freeway.
It is something which I will know what the sound means and can alert others about. I 'm glad the engine is still intact and I'm not wanting to stick a V8 in it.
