One of the cleanest trucks (when finished) we have ever worked on is a 1957 Studebaker short bed. It's a resto-rod that runs, drives, rides, and handles like a new truck. I guess it may be it's uniqueness I like so much IMG_3916.JPG IMG_3919.JPG IMG_3918.JPG IMG_3917.JPG IMG_3924.JPG but that doesn't make up for it being a 5' 10" driver truck owned by a 6' 5" owner. Bill Hanlon can sympathize I'm sure. The underside and bed inside are finished to the same degree as the outside. Owner lives just 5 miles from shop so we could take owners of "orphan" trucks over to see what they can be made into. He's selling it for less than half the price of what another customer sold his very similar 48 AD for so don't cross orphan trucks off your looking to buy list. The seat is the back seat out of a BMW 4dr.

had the original gas in the two gas tanks; drained yesterday. When asked why he bought something and never drove it his standard answer is "you should know better than to ask such a question from a know crazy person".

Oh yeah, the card on the middle of the dash says, " I spent most of my money on booze and women; the rest I just wasted".

I like the truck. Have always liked the Stude' trucks. I also like the idea of the BMW seat. I bet it's comfortable as anything. Any more pics of the seat? Or dimensions? Or which BMW it came out of? Or how it was installed? I'm cray interested in putting one in my truck although the early 80's Monte seat I have in mine fits the build pretty well.

    Andy,
I haven't mastered the picture posting on this windows 10 machine but will do what I can. Measurements are: width 54, depth 21. height 12 (at front of cushion) and seat back is 25 (cushion to top). The way the seat cradles you, even in the back, is part of BMW's "Driving Machine" I would guess.

Thanks Evan. I've been hitting Craigslist already. Those seats can be had pretty inexpensively. Do you know what model and year BMW that seat is from?

    thanks,

    Andy

Can't help you there ,Andy, we just head to the junkyard with a tape measure lots of times. Note the side panels on a rear seat are shop made as they don't need them in a normal application.

Jeezo - Peezo this makes me wish I had the $ to have Evan or Russ do my truck .

The idjit I used did fantastic paint works and the one rust hole in my new ($300 used) cab was done to perfection BUT and @$$hole also lost / stole my battery , original gas cap , ruined $800 worth of new bed wood by ignoring my specific instructions and using some sort of glossy 1/8" thick SURFBOARD polyethylene crap so now I have a mirror finish bed that'll be ruined the very first time I use it.... .

I talked and talked to this boob and his standard reply was ' don't worry ! I know what you want and I know what I'm doing ' .

He LIED to me shamelessly and I paid through the nose and got my beautiful truck back NOT RUNNING because he and his workers couldn't firgure out how to re assemble it in spite of him LYING TO ME and telling me me had a factory assembly manual plus some aftermarket restoration book....

    GRRrr.......

I'm seriously pissed off, and have no truck to drive right now  .

Whine , cry like a little girl , blubber etc. .
