I have a '66 1/2 ton LWB with a 454. Does anybody know if headers
for a later model will fit this ? The books don't list this
being a big block wasn't available then.

    Hi Rats..

You "may" be able to use headers up to 70 truck headers.

Another thing that may work, with a little tweaking, are headers for " A " body cars with big blocks.

A common practice with trucks from 60 66 with a small block is to move the motor mounts perches forward one bolt hole to provide clearance for an HEI at the firewall. I know of at least one case that the A body small block headers for the 350 worked fine.

FYI : "A" Bodies are Chevelles 72 or earlier. The 72 Chevelle came with a big block so there should be plenty of choices of manufacturers like Hedman, etc,,,

OK thanks Cowboy. Its going to be one of my winter projects in the
garage. I know that the front suspension off the later trucks will
bolt right up so I fugured the frame rails msut be bout the same.
The guy I bought the truck from sure could have pushed the motor
forward a couple inches. The way he had it mounted the valve covers
and HEI were touching the firewal. Could have saved me some hammer
swinging. So anyway thanks for any help.

Na I'm not going to move it. At least not now. All I know its suppose
to be a '79 motor and the guy didnt know what it came out of. Truck
I think, and the radiator prob did too. I spent the first year re-doing things that he or someone had done. Let me know how those headers you bought work out.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-02 AT 00:16 AM (CST)]ok the headers i got are for a 67-87 chevy 396 - 454 big block. the paper in the box says that they are cyclone headers(the box says that they are from mr. gasket). So i think that they are made bye cyclone but sold by mr. gasket. I bought them second hand, but un used. so it is a good deal.i got them for 100$. they should fit fine.
Can you get some photos of your radiator on the net so i can see how to do mine? Are your inner fenders cut? if so how much? i have a radiator that is out of a 79 chevy 1 ton that had a 454 and i was wondering how to modify the fenders. I found a radiator from brass works that is a 16" hex/octagon that might work good but i don't know how much it cost yet.
    thanks for the help

Sure thing. I have a site that has some pics of my truck when I
first bought it. I'll get a couple pics of the radiator and take
some dimensions. The guy I bought it from just had it kind of
strapped in there. I'm working on a better mounting. The fenders
aren't effected at all. Ill get that done tomorrow (Thurs).
Have you got a big-block in it now or you working on it ?

I don't have the big block in it now but i want to put it in. i've got to get a new block the one i had was cracked. so i got to find a new one and get the parts. Right now i'm kinda pressed for funds so the big block will have to wait a while. I have the stock radiator in it now with a sbc (283) i was thinking about building a 350 that i have here but i would have to bore it and rebuild it. but i also want to put a big block in it. I haven't got any parts for the big block.
