    I have a 1965, chevy c-20 Fleetside pickup that I just bought.
After driving it a night I discovered that the head lights shut off sometimes while driving with my brights on.
    What could the problem be.

The first place I would start is with the dimmer switch. Hope this helps.

I feel fairly confident you have a dimmer switch problem (like the previous post intimated) In my case my high beam lights go out momentarily when going from low to high beam. A friend of mine said the switch design is such that the circuit to the headlights and not made during that transition. If you activate the switch quickly, like you usually do, the effect is not noticeable. If you hold the switch down (with your foot) the lights stay out until you release the switch.
In your case a variation of this may be happening due to a worn out or dirty switch. You may want to replace it.
