Anyone have problems with the fitting of the replacement headliner ? I end up with gaps around door frame at the windshield posts . It is in a 52 pickup with the center bow. the gaps are in what I would call the widows peak right at the door frame and they are too big that the weatherstripping will not hide it.
Yeah, same problem on mine 51. And the exact same places as you describe. I'm going to order another one and try it out. Of course I won't order from the same place as the first one. Only suggestion if you're not going to change yours out, is pull it out and mark where the gaps are and pull the headliner out and paint the spots where the gaps are at the same color as the headliner.
Headliners Andy, people with leaky heads? All, I had the same issue with my 52. When it was all done it looks like the headliner is abut 1/4 inch too long. Looking back at some of the archives others have solved the problem by trimming off the end of the liner that fits in the bow. Right now my truck is just a fun truck, so I left it as it is and only those who look at the posts see About 10 years from now when I take it apart again and do it first class I'll fix it! (Unless of course Andy is right and I decide "who needs it anyway?"
I didn't finish the installation. I rolled it back up like it was and put it in the corner.I have too much time and money in this to have to look at that everytime I crawl in it for a ride. Could you please let me know how your other vendors replacement fits? There has to be one out there that fits better than this. maybe someone will chime in and tell us!
Dicky56, I had not 1, but 2 replacement headliners that just did not work. I ended up getting headliner material and making one using the replacement headliner as a template adding length where needed, etc.
Cardboard Headlining Sux , plain & simple ~ if you ever use your truck in the rain , it'll warp as soon as the inside of the cab gets damp . Trust me , everyone needs and wants , a headliner , often you don't realize it until you're finally sorted it out , then the differance is amazing . I'd not consider a headliner of any typ un;ess it has sound deadening installed first . I have a " soft " headliner , nort stock but very quiet in the cab so I like it a lot as this is my work truck and so needs to be nice for long drives , converstion and lisening to the News & Blues on the radio There's been roughly a million posts on headliner installation , go search 'em all out , print and read 'em , get the water sprayer as that makes the cardboard *just* flexible enough to fit correcly , by the time it dries out , it's custom formed to your truck . You can make your own out of Masonite , I bet Evan has done some sweet custom ones .
Darn, Nate, you made me go out at midnight in my slippers to snap a shot of the only pickup on the place with a "Do away with the paper" headliner in it. I is my wifes "Brand X" fishing truck which also had a paper type liner that warped the first time a sparrow pee'd on the roof. It has a polypropylene backing with a 1/4" sponge pad and vinyl material and is NOT done to the standard for that of a customer truck. Our host sells a one piece plastic headliner that can be padded and covered in the same way but be aware it's about $165 so trim very carefully. Makes a really nice one when done and it won't warp.
Sorry Evan ........Not really You're far to good a fit & finish man for me not to drag you out as a big gun.... Don't forget to install sound deadening first guys ! .
Head liner install I am getting ready to do this and may make my own if this cardboard crap does not work! I just can't believe the garbage they sell for these trucks, half the stuff does not work or has to be cobbled up to fit! Butchery at its best!
Went through 2 in the 53. Rear is too long and sides are short. I covered mine in my truck with saddle blankets to match my seats. Filled the short sides nicely.
Headliner material Hey Ken Having the same problem with mine to What kinda headliner material did you choose and where to buy from ? I would like to see a picture from the result in your truck , is that posseble ? Thanks Martinius.
