Need complete heating system, including blower box in engine compartment, levers for dash inside, etc. Let me know where to begin!!! I assume salvage/junkyard is starting point, but perhaps there is someone on teh board who knows on one available somewhere???!?!? Mark
Hey Mark that going to salvage yard would probabley be a good way to go as long as it works, got the same problem with my heater in my 1966 c-10 shortbed fleetside doesnt work,so what Im doing before winter gets here just bought a 1966 c-20 3/4 ton going to use the heater system out of it.
A salvage yard for the under the hood unit and the under dash unit. The rest can be bought from Classic Parts - motor, core, levers, et all. And then an auto parts store for the hoses from the core to the water pump/intake.
Aimless, 283, THanks for the replies. SOunds like a plan. The truck has a heater in it now, but it is the wrong syste, (looks to be from a leter year) and has control on dash that looks like a cigarette lighter. I think this type of control (rather than the correct levers next to the ash tray) is from a later year. ANyway, they butchered the firewall too to get the hoses through. You can tell the truck came originally without heat, the it has the original blank metal plates in the engine compartment to block off the two openings, and the panel to the right of the ash tray (wher levers go) is also a blank metal piece. THen they must have gotten a later heating unit and installed for those cold days. Oh well, just something elso to fix this winter when she's all apart.
Don't forget about e-Bay and your local paper as a source. I would consider replacing the old, junk yard find, heater core with a new on from our hosts here at Classic Parts. DVal
