Let me tickle your gray matter... What is the Bonanza package? I know they are rare, be cause I cannot find any information on them. I know that they were made in the late 70's and I know that most were two-tone brown.

The package description in the glove box says scottsdale equipment group. It has the camper package including the HD suspension (9 leaf springs), HD driveline (1-ton U-joints) and brakes (JH8, I think), HD alternator, and tachometer with full instrumentation (sweet). 350 4bbl, TH400 Trans, 3.73 14-bolt, dual tanks, deluxe vinyl seat, carpet, factory tinted glass, and cargo light. The only thing it does not have is power windows/locks and posi-trac. It even has cruise, intermittent delay wipers, full body trim, and wheel arches, like a silverado. I even have the original AM radio in storage.

What gives? Does this make it more desirable in the eyes of collectors or is it an odd-ball? The NADA gives $12,000 value in OEM condition. I have been searching every since I aquired this truck from a deceased realative from Tulsa, OK in 1993. It had 25k original miles then and has 128K now with the same, un-modified engine, though the transmission has had an overhaul. For a 25 year old vehicle (11 years in my ownership) I cannot believe the reliability it has shown. I have put it through major back in college. We used to go off-roading (louisiana mud) hardcore. I treated it like a 4WD (it has a winch) and it still faithful.

It has been a great truck that I will not part with, it drives like a tank. I drove it all through high-school and college. One day I will retire it when I decide to get another vehicle. It deserves a full restore, garage home, and sunday drives.

Any help on the history of the short-lived Bonanza would be greatly appriciated.

I search and all I could find was at www.73-87.com

"Also offered were several Chevy Bonanza/GMC Royal Sierra option groups. They were special year-end promotional packages (analogous to Ford's old "white sale" Explorer pickup packages) with special discounted price groupings of popular appearance/convenience options. Prior to the 1980 model year, the Bonanza/Royal Sierra packages were based on the Z62 trim level with the addition of floor carpeting; after that time, the packages offered a choice of Z84 or YE9 interiors. In later years, Canadian customers wer offered similarly conceived "Wrangler" packages. The Wrangler packages included some very distinctive and exclusive paint/decal features; really neat collector's items! "
