Just drove my 66 one ton Panel back from PA to the UP (1100 miles at 50 mph...life in the slow lane) and just after I crossed the Mackinac Bridge the weather went from 85 degrees and sunny to 41 degrees and foggy cold rain. To my chagrin I found the only heater/defroster blower I had was ram air from pushing on the gas pedal! As it was dark and foggy, pushing on the gas pedal was not a prudent thing to do. So, now that I have it home, all you pro's out there: what's the most likely way to revive my (non-a/c) blower motor? The fuse is good, wires are connected, but two of the control levers are busted off (fan/air controls). I have ordered replacements from our host, but wonder if I should hotwire the blower motor to check and see if it's alive, then start replacing heater switches, etc.

I will be grateful for any advice, especially from those of you who have had to resurrect your heater/defroster controls on a '66.
    Thanks.

    Hay Roger,

She's a Long Little Doggie !!! First try applying 12 volts to the blower motor to see if it will run. If you get good results, check the harness running from those busted up levers to the blower motor.
I would also replace the blower relay now. They are cheap enough and it probably needs replacing anyway.
Now is also the time to look at those defroster hoses. They are usually rotted. New ones will make a world of difference in keeping that windshield clear.

She looks really nice. Keep us updated !

    Thanks Dennis-

I removed and metered the old heater fuse and it checked good. Just because I'm contrary, I put a new one in anyhow, and lo and behold: the blower started working!

The fan control arm has just enough left to get hold of, and I moved it up and down, and there appear to be several dead spots, so I think I should probably replace that blower motor control resistor, eh? Was that the same as the relay you mentioned?

She has the 137" wheelbase (C30) and rides very comfortably--softer than my 99 Silverado 3/4, and way softer than my 2000 Blazer. 10 and a half foot long cargo deck--that's a lot of beer!:D

Back on new years eve in 1987 I drove my truck down to Odessa Texas. That was 1300 miles round trip, never been that cold before.Had one foot on petal other on the dash next to the defroster. I was pulling stuffing out of the seat pluging up holes in fire wall. The truck ran perfect though.
