    Hey Guys,
    Can anyone identify this hood orinament that was on my 48 1 ton? I haven't seen one like it and don't want to put it back on if it doesn't belong.

    Thanks
    Rick

    Rick ;

    Be aware that there's what the catalog shows and then there's how these rigs were dressed when new , right in the showroom floor ~ it could have been added by the dealer or an owner who simply thought it looked good .

    The authorized AD Truck hood ornament looks like a chrome plated cow's toung sticking out , good enough for the average farmer buying one of these trucks I guess but hideous IMO .

    Bottom line : it's your Stovebolt so if -you- like it , replace it ~ I prolly would .

    Beautiful 48, Ken, that's what I drove to Texas from Minnesota in 1963. Mine was a two tone ugly green/gray bottom with a dirty white top. I traded my 46 ford coupe for it the day before I left with my best friend because the ford started instantly in 20 below weather while he had to carry the 48's battery in each night to keep it warm so it would start. The chevy always started and if we hadn't been dirt poor a new battery would have solved the problem but heck, when your young the instant solution was just to trade cars. The 48 loved Texas and served me well till I gave it to my wifes brother for his first car.
