Question regarding horn wire been slowly getting my wiring done doing it my self Installed an ez wire 12 circuit harness I hooked up the horn wire from the front section of the harness to the horn a ground wire from horn to fender than horn wire from fuse box to wire coming out of the steering column. Put the steering wheel and horn button on the horn contact in steering wheel the way it should be connected the battery and the horn would just blast than I took a universal horn button hooked it to the wire from steering column and the 2nd wire from button to wire from fuse box and pushed the button and horn worked as it should. So what am I missing to get it to work as it should the stock way ? Thanks
The "stock" way was battery hot to one terminal on the horn. Then a wire from the other terminal on the horn up to the brass ring at the top of the steering column. When you pressed the horn button it supplied ground to the brass ring and the horn would blow. Without seeing the wiring diagram of your ez wire harness, I'm guessing it expects you to have a more modern one wire horn and a horn relay. Post a good picture of the wiring diagram and I'll show you how to make it work.
As I suspected, the later model one-wire horn shown in the drawing needs a horn relay. The one our host sells (and I use on my '52 GMC that has been converted to 12 volts) is shown here. Horn Relay-Classic Chevy Truck Parts And as installed on my truck. The left terminal goes to the horn. If you are still using a stock 6 volt horn with 2 wires attached you need to connect one terminal of the horn to ground and the other terminal to where my white wire is on the relay. The center terminal goes to the horn wire in the steering column. The right terminal goes to "always on 12 volts". The horn will pull quite a bit of current, probably 10 to 20 amps. If it is still a 6 volt horn, it will make LOUD noise and may not have a long life.
Also picked up some new light sockets and bulbs for dash instruments i misplaced one Had to go to NAPA got the 3 they had in stock then across the street from NAPA to an AutoZone got the last 3 they had in stock Nice fit
I did find a horn relay that came hook up to my fuse box on the ez wire just haven’t had time to put the steering wheel with horn button back together
