I have a completely stock and original 54 pickup. I want to lower it a few inches just so it will sit a little lower to the ground. How did guys lower there trucks back in the day before the help of all these aftermarket products like the drop front axels etc.? Dearching the springs the option of choice, or removing a few of the leafs? It is just for joy riding and going down to home depot occasonally so I am not too concerned about the ride or loads from hauling things. I need to replace my shocks soon (they might be the originalls) but would like to have it lowered first because I believe I would need different shocks. Thanks guys for any help, Scotty54
try removing a couple of leafs in the front and rear. this is the absolute least invasive way. if your game you could put the rear axel on the opposite side of the leaf in the rear (flip the axel) i think some guys did this to the front as well. in the old days i bent my rear leaf pack in 3 places (looked like a W)...but since your stock don't do any major surgery. Thanks Mylow53! I will give this a try. I would also think that this should make it ride a little smoother aswell? Scottys54
lowering I would like to know what leafs to remove i think they said remove two front and back but witch ones thanks
which ones? it's your call so long as your not drag racing the only important spring is the the longest one. i would pull 2 of the smaller ones off the front and maybe 3 in the back. it just depends how it hangs down. make sure your shocks are not working as bump stops they wont last if they bottom out.. when i bent the rear leaf in 3 places it improved the handling almost like a sway bar. your truck will sway even more with the lighter spring pack. regardless you can always put them back to stock when ever you need to... upload some before and after shots GT
Lowering i would get a set of lowing blocks you can pick up a set for about 40 bucks at the part store
i can't remember the rear as much on these but i'm positive you can't use them on the front, since the axel is below the spring. it's been a while but i think the rear has the axel above the spring so a block will work. you will need new ubolts thou. the reason i didn't use blocks on the back is; if i blew my tire the ubolts would hit the ground before my rim. mind you this was 1984 and i was running (like an idiot)14" rims. since your stock rim is larger you might be fine with the rear blocks GT
