I have a 1951 Chevy truck with EZ wire harness. I bought the LED tail lights and I don't have a schematic to perform the wiring. Thanks for any assistant you can provide.
They wire just like the old incondescent bulb but be VERY-VERY sure the polarity is correct. If positive and negative get reversed they are instant toast. Most aftermarket harnesses use the GM color coding so the tail light and license plate light should be a brown wire. I'm sure EZ has the wire destination printed about every foot on the wire sleeve.
I have the EZ wiring harness, and yes, the tail/license lights are a brown wire. It happens to be labeled 'left tail', and has a splice in it for the license lite and right tail light.
Tail light hookup on a 51/54 chevy truck Thanks for the information, to both Bilbo and Coilover. However, the issue is still the LED lights. The colors are diferent... for the running light, the turn signal and stop light and also the license plate light from those of the EZ wire and original wire. Left tail light (driver side), 5 wires; 1 Black, 2 White, 1 Red and 1 Brown. Right tail light (passenger side), 3 wires; 1 Black, 1 Red and 1 White. As Coilover indicated you don't want fry them. Thanks, JJ Froobs
Where did you get them? They may be able to help. Black is usually ground. The driver's side has 2 whites....I would think these may be for marker lights, the led has a seperate panel for the license plate light that shine through the bottom of the tail light. I would guess the red is probably the stop/turn as it is also present in both. As for the brown?????
I believe you better contact the LED light maker here since wrong is instant trash. I remember I was putting a set of 39 Chevy LED "bullet" lights on a 52 Suburban and had to remove the bulb socket to braze in longer mounting bolts. The pigtail was marked + and - and darned if the + wasn't the black wire---both lights. Was just flat lucky on this one.
LED lights Evan, Thanks for your recommendation (Now I understand regarding Positive/Negative fry better). I will contact the vendor. Also thanks to Bilbo, Ol' Chebby and the others for their assistance/reponses... JJ Froobs
