Huck brakes

Is it possible?

Is it possible that the brakes on your truck are passenger car brakes? The truck shop manual shows brake shoe hold down springs, but I found a picture of a passenger car huck setup that does not have hold down springs.



Baffling question.

Huck brakes some install problems with drums?

The brakes are sentered the right way and everything is nice and tidy with all new parts inside.
I bought new brakeshoes for my 50 truck and installed these. I asume both front and rear brake shoes are excactly alike for the 50 truck? The midle part (asbestos) of the new brakeshoes is a litle thikker then the ends , both L and R side is like that. The old rear drums are worn out so i bought new ones 6 lugs. And then a problem acured i cant get them in position to fit. At Classics parts they told me they had send me the right drums for a 50 truck.
The drums wont glide over the shoes, no free pasage there. What the f..... you could say but that does`nt help eather! Any off you guys recognize this problem and how to deal with it?

Martinius - Front and rear brake shoes should be the same. The lining on my shoes was the same thickness the length of the shoe. Can you try some different shoes from a local auto parts store?

The new drum won't fit because of the thicker linings ~ they need to be
" arced " (ground) to suit the drum .

Any professional brake shop should be able to do this but most folks just retract the adjusters all the way then knock the drums on snugly with a leather mallet then drive it gently and s l ow l y until the linings have conformed to the drums and there's no more drag.....

IIRC , Huck (rhymes with suck) brakes don't not have nor need primary & secondary shoes because they're pinned at the bottom .

Thanks , i will try to ground them some mm in the midle until they`ll fit well and the shoes go clear. I know that this kind of material is`nt that hard so i` LL manage i think? Have an nice evening.
