I applied for a supervisor position that was listed on Craigslist today. The successful candidate would supervise 40 guys at a welding shop in Manteca. They must have liked my resume that showed my 30 years in the trades my welding certifications and my supervisor experience because they got back to me in less than a half hour. This was their response...... Dear Mr. Smith, are you BILINGUAL because the position is for someone who is fluent in both Spanish and English......This was my response......Dear Miss Hawker, No I'm not bilingual but if I'm hired for this position I can promise that the need for a Spanish speaking supervisor will no longer be needed. With my organizational skills I will be able to reorganize the crew and make the necessary changes that it would take to ensure that only English speaking personnel are employed under my supervision. I feel that this would be necessary in order to be able to maintain a good English speaking relationship with the personnel. Have a nice day.....Tim Smith....American Citizen ........Needless to say I didn't get the job....Big Tim

    That SUX !

Although I'm tri- lingual , and I speak Spanish best in a Shop environment , I really do think immigrants should make the effort to learn & speak English .

My people are Scots - Irish and you don't hear us gabbing in Gailic f'Chrissakes  .

Here's hoping you land a better job soon Jim .

    Misunderstanding

Surely you misunderstood the job requirements, as is the situation over here, these people require a shop full of unqualified CHEAP workers and someone who IS the only one qualified who speaks their language to watch over them, trouble is when a job goes pear shaped, the qualified guy gets the bullet!!! he is after all the fall guy.

    A Thought ~

Lest anyone get to rah - rah carried away with anti immigrant fever , the only non immigrants in America are the native Indians .

My people came here on the boat and passed through Ellis Island in New York before dissappearing into the teeming slums of New York City long ago , they took the opportunity given to them and learned the language and became 100 % American - no burning our flag nor speaking Gaelic etc. ~ my father was born and raised in the South Bronx , a good place to be from , he broke his behind to put himself and his bigger brother through Harvard Medical School and graduated at the top of his class .

This , to me is what being an immigrant is all about .

When I was 18 , I met , wooed and married an illegal immigrant , she also worked hard , learned the language and never took one thin dime of public assistance . she earned the right to study about America and apply for Citizenship , she passed the test easily , works hard and pays her taxes etc. .

If you think it's apropriate to burn our flag , or to say your shithole country that abandoned you so you had to come here to live decently , is so great ,

    PLEASE LEAVE .

Otherwise : WELCOME TO AMERICA ! land of hopes , dreams and possibilities beyond your wildest imagination but _only_ if you get on board .

That's my story and I'm sticking to it ~ I'm just a poorly educated farm boy but I know the blessing I have by living here .

Great story Nate, Too bad today's illegals don't have the same morals. They are running away from their shit hole country's and coming over illegally and turning our country into the same shit holes they are running away from. The constitution was written for all legal United States Citizens and illegals come over expecting the same rights and are sucking the life out of the American way. It seems that GAY Mexicans are the only ones with rights anymore and the rest of us have to suffer. Society wants everyone to have a problem because if you have a problem then the government can create a program that will help and pass the cost on to the rest of us that don't. In the end the people with the problems prosper and the people without go broke. What you end up with is a bunch of illegals taking jobs for sub standard pay and the rest loosing everything they have worked most of their life's for because they can't find a job that will support what they have. California unemployment pays 450.00 a week max benefits with an extra 25.00 a week that Obama gives you that's 475.00 a week. If a person takes a 15.00 an hour job, by the time you are taxed and have paid for your gas and lunches you're in the hole. Our union provides highly experienced and qualified help for any one that can afford to pay our wages, the problem is a lot of contracts are going to non union labor for half the wages. What the contracts don't understand is in the end it will cost them more when they have to go in and re do the work or they have to pay for the accidents or mishaps that happen along the way. I could go on for hours on this subject and I apologize to those of you I have offended that have GAY MEXICANS living within your family's. This is a truck site and we should be talking about trucks not politics. My work here is done and boy do I feel better! Have a good weekend all.....Big Tim

    immigrants and other things

Im not so sure its an anti-immigrant or racist thing Nate, its more like resentment towards them, over her we have had a massive influx of east europeans over a very short time, nearly 2m as it turns out in 10yrs in a tiny already overpopulated country of 65m. We have had a system of free hospitals etc and a social service system that takes care of you in hard times. Now they are only 'free' because every wage earner in the country pays a small bit into these systems to keep them going. What has happened is a lot of people who have not paid into this system have arrived with elderly parents and kids in tow who have come from countries with diseases like Tb and the like and have put a massive strain on the system. We had eradicated Tb in this country and all of a sudden there is the threat of an outbreak in the population of a new strain. So funds got diverted to stop this and other things happening, to the point where the books dont balance anymore, too much going out not enough coming in. Treating immigrants strained the system beyond breaking point so you end up in a hospital ward with your 85yr old dad who has worked hard all his life and paid his dues being told there aint the funds to give him the drugs to prolong his life for a few more years, surrounded by non english speaking people in the other beds. It causes resentment, also these people have arrived with nowhere to live, no job, no food so the social helps out, you have a family of 8 from Serbia so they give them a big house to live in, doesnt seem right, more resentment. Then the businessmen realise there is a lot of cheap labour available who will work in crap conditions for next to nothing, so they employ them illegally or otherwise and ditch the dearer local workers, more resentment. And so it goes on, you end up with a lot of resentment building up in the population, add to this the crime increase and murder rate going up because the new people come from countries where killing someone is not so uncommon and crime is a way of life and you have a big problem. Also add to this ex millitary/millitia fleeing war torn countries because of the crimes they have commited and this fact coming out when they are charged with rape/murder over here and boy do people get angry!

I think we all have it in us to respect people who roll up their sleeves and get stuck in to make a better life for themselves but we also all have it in us to get wound up if we think we are getting shafted.

    Jus my 2 bob

You guys express so eloquently what I believe many working citizens feel. Thank you for making comments so clearly, and easily understood. Nate, Your story is excellent, and just makes me respect you that much more than I already did, (due to your vast knowledge of our trucks). Thanks for all the comments. I wish everyone in the country would see this...

Hey Nate, even the native Americans came from Asia.

I love America and I love those who are able bodied and do not rely on me to provide them sustenance. Those who need compassion (and are citizens) have mine. Those who are not citizens, while I feel your pain, you are not my responsibility.

As US citizens we lately find ourselves in a world that is upside down. Those who work hard to be self sufficient are punished. We pay 50% of what we make to provide for those who do not believe in our work ethic. The ones we provide for are not all illegal. In fact, most of the illegal immigrants that I see around here work their butts off. When our president, then candidate, told Joe the Plumber that he felt he should spread the wealth around he meant it. Apparently I was in the minority when I took him for his word. I am not naive enought to believe that it is all his fault. The fact is we have, through lack of term limits, fostered an environment in D.C. that nurtures encumbents who feel entitled to do whatever the hell they please. We must correct this situation. The most powerful weapon US citizens have is the right to vote. Go to the poles in November and vote. I know what I believe and I will vote accordingly. Please do the same.

By the way, Charles, while I sympathize with your situation, you have me laughing my ass off.
    Bill

We can see from our brothers across the pond that newbies are a problem, and resentments abound, the way to stop the openess is by the vote and hope the federal judges do not change what was pass.
What we do not want to get like again is, where we are so demanding on people we mandate the style of hair a person wears as did happen in the 1855 era of San Francisco.

And it looks like Freddie the freeloader has found a place, he and Jack-knife the gay blade are an item again, uck, but thanks goodness he is going to leave in the morning. Could not find any gay vaqueros for him, just wanted the lazy-assed Bum out.
I was going to grayhound him to one of my sister house and not tell her he was on his way.

    Welcome

Its funny how when you welcome people into your home/country its very easy for it to get to the situation where they outstay their welcome:D

I have 2 mixed race kids, grown up now but its scary because resentment is simmering away in this country with the immigrants and the pressures of the recession. Who knows if things may boil over. Funny how the scumbag of an ex prime minister Mr Blair, who caused the problem, hardly visits this messed up country:mad:

One big thing has changed since the influx of visitors, it used to be the english way that if you had a dispute with someone in the pub, driving or anywhere really, you put your dukes up and had a few swings at each other, problem solved. In the past decade it has now become compulsory to stab/shoot/kill anyone who 'disses' you in the slightest way. The tiniest disagreement leads to a fight to the death, that wasnt the english way.

    Very sad:(

People can't "man up" and take a few licks anymore. Now the loser has to round up a posse or get a gun and do a drive by. You lost, learn something or next time and get over it.

    Moat

We had a nutter recently had a bust up with his ex while in prison then got released and went and shot her (alive) her new feller (dead) and a cop in the face (blind but alive) then had a stand off with the cops for 6 hours before he blew his own lonely brain cell out (thankfully dead) ok not so unusual you say, sadly a fairly common thing. but what was shocking was the 28,000 'fans' on the 'Raul Moat was a hero' farcebook site put up immediately after his death! Theres a lot of plankton walking around disguised as humans over here, these are the ones who are either soon to be parents or already are!!!

It should be 'The sh*t for brains shall inherit the earth' cos the meek aint steppin up to the plate:(
