I think I have Bendix!!

Ok, so when I bought the truck the guys says, "it's a 52 GMC chassis, I think" No title but don't need one in NH so I didn't worry about it. When I finally got the damn screws out today and removed the front drums what I found looks like Bendix brakes. In addition the drag link looks like the 53-55 not the 52 and under. Can anyone help me identify the below pictures. If I am looking at this correctly it appears my chassis is a 53-55? TIA

Bendix allright!

What you have are Bendix brakes allright! Huck brakes are a bit different.Attached a illustration of the Huck brakes. Not shore weather your chassis is newer then a 52 ?

It's possible some PO decided to replace the front axle with a 54 and put the 54 drag link on at the same time... I put a '54 1/2 ton on my 52 (3/4 ton) because that was the donor that I had. I think the drag link on the 52 wouldn't mate with the 54, but the 54 would with the 52.

Looks great! You have new shocks, springs, brake lines are cut and waiting for upgraded brakes... You are right at the same spot my front end is!

Thanks Guys. I was waiting to do the brakes until I figured out what I really have. Those damned screws holding the drums on have finally been exorcised and I can get a good look at things. I'll be able to finish the brakes up in the garage this winter and hopefully everything will be ready as soon as the roads are clear. This certainly will make finding brake parts easier. That has been part of the holdup since I thought I had the dreaded 52 3/4t brakes. So given that these are Bendix should be just a standard wheel cylinder from our host right?

Bendix Brakes

You can prolly get the parts from your local NAPA store , better quality at slightly higher price.....

These fine brakes were used into the late 1960's (if not the 1970's) so they're easy to find and affordable too .

Bendix & Wagner still make EVERYTHING brandy new , U.S.A. made even.....

Be SURE to peel back the rubber dust boots & measure & match the cylinder bores ! good stopping power instead of standing both feet on the brake pedal as you wonder why it won't actually stop depends on this .

I bet these are the very same as the brakes on my new 1969 .

Remember ; de rust the drums but DO NOT TURN THEM ! .

Yep those are not Huck for sure. That will be great as you will be able to get parts for those very easy.
