idle mixture

Hi all,
this is a bit silly, if I want to make the mixture leaner on my model B single barrell carburetor, do I turn the idel mixture screw clockwise or counter clockwise? I thought if anyone could answer this it would save me some time fooling with it. Right now the truck is way too rich.

Turning the screw out makes it richer and in will lean it out.Also use a vacuum gauge when setting idle mixture.

INTERESTING TECHNIQUE THERE, A VACUUM GUAGE. I'VE NEVER HERE OF THAT. I'VE ALWAYS ADJUSTED MINE WITH TURNS (EX.1.5, 2 TURNS OUT). COULD YOU MABEY DISCUSS THAT TECHNIQUE A LITTLE BIT FURTHER, I'D LIKE TO TRY IT ON MY '54 GMC, THE ZENITH CARB SEEMS DIFFICULT TO TUNE. (MY PLUGS ARE ALWAYS BLACK)

Oops my mistake I was thinking about setting timing,which should be set first before any carb adjustment is made.You could use it to set the idle mixture.You turn the screw in all the way then back it out watching the gauge till you get the smoothest reading.
