I am replacing the ignition switch cylinder. How do I remove the old cylinder from the cylinder housing and replace same.

    Thanks,

I assume it's the original one ? find a paperclip and unbend one leg of it , insert in the little hole in the face of the ignition switch and gently press the spring you'll feel , insert the key and turn it _counterclockwise_ , it'll make one position movement and unlock and pop out towards you .

If you don't have a key , dismount the switch and either take it 'round to thift , junk and antique shops and test all the old GM keys they'll have dozens of , or take it to the swap meet or take it to a locksmith and pay him $5.00 to pick it and he'll unlock it and take it apart .

WARNING ! be SURE to tell the locksmith to NOT DRILL THE LOCK ! my 20 + years locksmith stupidly drilled out the original ignition lock it took me years to find...... then he grinned stupidly and said ' hell Nate , it's only a little hole ' ~ after I resisted punching him out , I got lucky and found another original ignition lock and took the time test fitting old GM keys untill I found one that fit .

BTW : ALL Salvation Army and other thrift stores have sh*tloads of old keys they cannot ever sell.....
