Want to install cd-receiver stereo in 79 C10. Are there any installation kits out there to make it easier to install? Any suggestions would be helpful also.
There are really no kits, per say, for your situation. When you purchase the DIN unit, it will come with a metal casing which has bendable tabs you will use to lock it into position. Depending on where the stereo mounting supports are located, you will have to bend a piece of metal around to reach from the stereo to the bottom of your dash. After getting good measurements, I would suggest cutting the dash bezel first. Once your DIN unit sits in there nicely, reinstall the bezel, then trace the cut area on to the metal, which has to be cut after removing the bezel again. Once the metal has been cut, I would highly suggest a test fit with the bezel in place before locking in the case. If it fits well, lock in the DIN casing, install the bezel, and slide the stereo in place, until it locks in place. If all is well, make the supports. I would worry too much about the nastiness of your cutting, as long as isn't too far off. The DIN unit will have some type of trim ring to cover the hole cut for it's installation. Some audio stores have plates which can be placed over the bezel to cover imperfections. Hope this helps.
