Did Chevy make the interior garnish moldings for the doors out of stainless for the deluxe models or were they just chromed?
They were stainless and they can be polished out with jeweler's rouge and sparkle 50 years down the road. The glovebox on most, but not all trucks, was also stainless. The above photo is strictly for educational purposes and is not intended to be a blatant attempt at showing off Ken
There were interior and exterior stainless window moldings. The outside tend to be hen's teeth, if you find some that are not bent, grab them. The interior ones are slightly easier to find, but still fairly rare in good shape.
Russ, I agree with you 100% on the "hen's teeth" outer moldings. What do you think a set of them are worth? Ken
There's a rumor going around that the above mentioned truck has been seen outside a time or two, as well....
I paid $30 for the ones on the 53 and had to talk the man out of them. I also had to remove them from the doors on the trailer with a borrowed screwdriver. They were the only ones in the Charlotte Autofair. I have found some here and there, but many were dented, a few had bullet holes.
I'm pretty sure I've seen them repopped on one of the vendors sights. I've seen the outters go as high as $160/pr good shape. Oddly I've seen more on the bigger weight commercial trucks. Flashlight
Stainless Steel Window Trims If you are diligent , they pop up here & there over time . I was able to collect them all for my '49 Shop Truck , all were nearly grey in color , having never been polished . I hand polished each one with proper stainless steel polish before installing , they look great and draw compliments in spite of having some dents . Big 'Bolts had them more often , usually because of the " Nu-Vue " 5 window option being purchased as a safety item , in spite of them being base model yard goats .
Here is an interesting tid bit of information on the inner door stainless window trims. Stainless trim was very common on the 1947-1950 trucks {with the one piece door glass}. In 1951 the vent windows were added to the doors... The inner stainless trims for the doors with vent windows were only made for 6 months because of material shortages during the Korean war. All the inner door trims from late 51 on up to 55 first series were all plain painted steel.... no inner door stainless trims {for the vent window doors} were ever offered again after early 1951. I have seen alot of guys hacking up 47-50 one piece door glass trims to fit the 51 & up vent window doors but, since the trim on the later trucks is wider.... it's close but no cigar. If you have a pair of stainless inner door trims that are notched {by the factory} for the vent window doors... they are nearly impossible to find as they were only made for 6 months in early 1951. We been collecting inner & outer stainless door & windshield trims for 35 years now . Don't need all the ones collected so, I am sure we will be thinning the collection down in the near future.
trims Im pretty sure according to the rules of the site, all selling- buying should be done by private message or email.
Yea & I am pretty sure you are full of S#1T. That is one of the dumb ass rules on the Stovebolt page where you came from. We can buy & sell whatever the hell we want around here without the "Imposter" from the Stovebolt trying to monkey around over here.
Hope you do not feel I’m stepping on your post but, Someone asking about where parts can be had is kind of normal here and having Joe respond he has the items is how it has been for some time, all the deals are and have been by PM, .
thanks fellas, did not think i crossed any line. Dead zone thanks , but after this thread I went down to the shop and dug thru the old parts and amazingly found the trim, painted but when i removed some of the paint it waas like an early christmas. the stainless steel ones with the factory cut outs for the vents. now i will send them out to a shop on Long Island for polishing and i should be good. just for my own intrest ballpark what you think they are worth?l thanks Joe
God, who slid the barbwire across DZTs crotch? Seams like hes always jumping out of his cage going for someones throat. I just thought that was one of the rules abot offering parts for sell in the forum. Len
