Have an interesting problem in my attempt to start this engine (250).....Installed new(Classic Parts)Engine wiring harness (from ignition to starter, to coil, etc...). To check the connections bumped the starter...all seemed OK....But....within 15 seconds smoke started to appear from the harness.....I had left the ignition on. Wire from coil to starter seemed to be the issue....so I purchased a new coil, starter...and a new harness. I wired it up and again can tell the wires are starting to get hot. Any ideas on what stupid thing I've done?? All looks pretty straight forward, but evidently I'm missing something. Thanks for any suggestions. Steve
check the wiring termination These wiring harnesses are built on wiring tables. The guys building them go pretty fast. Their mind isn't always on thier jobs. It is common for the terminals to be slipped into the wrong places in the terminal blocks. Look at a wiring diagram and see if things are correctly positioned. I put a custom harness in my truck. There were a few wires in the wrong places. One toasted my horn switch.
