A chassis for a 48 Ford pickup was brought it to have the engine mounts changed from those for a 455 Oldsmobile to ones for an LS3 engine. Had been driven for several years with the Olds engine. Owner thought the welds on the Camaro clip might need a little cleaning up and something done to lower the rear. Hard to lower the rear when there is a tubing "X" where the driveshaft should be. Once again have to turn horsesh!t into angel food cake. Sometime you have to stir the ingredients really hard to get a good result.
I recall seeing those very pictures in the dictionary, under "Booger Weld". But if the twist from a 455, which probably has more torque at 900 RPM's than the LS3 has anywhere, didn't turn that into pretzels, then just add more boogers and call it good. Just point out which vehicle it is so I know not to go for a ride in it. Or be near it in traffic.
Guy that did those welds should be dragged through the dirt. You all see where the "weld" is coming apart in the second picture? Holy crap, Batman!!! Andy
Good eyes Andy and that is not the only pulled/cracked weld. Mike, we were talking about the very same thing concerning a 455's torque and decided that he must be running narrow tires where they just went up in smoke rather than putting twist on the frame.
I have no idea what your labor rate is, Evan, but, with that much crappy work, I'm thinking a new, custom, frame would be the best idea on this one. Steve.
