I recently purchased a 1950 6400 Chevrolet Truck. Trying to find connections on advise, parts, VIN information etc. Just getting started to take it all apart and start from the frame up. Not sure where to go and what to do.
Welcome Oscar, You've come to the right place. That is, of course, if you have a good sense of humor. Here is a link to VIN info to get you started. http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/VIN.htm Gater
Welcome Oscar, The group is here to help Feel free to fire away any questions you have. With-in the group someone has either done it or can provide the information you need to figure it out. Just takes us awhile to get back to the point sometimes but we do have Fun
Ditto all of the above, Oscar. And BTW, the stovebolt page that Gater referred to also has a great forum called "Big Bolts" that you'll probably find useful. 6400, huh? Sounds like tons of fun!
that is a cool ride, there oscar. the guys on this forum have been the best source of info i've been able to find anywhere. and they know these trucks like the back of their hand, so welcome! most of the basic stuff has already been asked at some point, so you may want to take some time and look through the archives here on this forum. at the top of the page, there's a task bar. click on "search", and then you can search through it by key word. pretty handy, really. and if there's not enough info there, just post a new thread like you did for this one. as you can see, you'll get plenty of prompt responses. also, i might suggest making a special folder in your "favorites" for all of the truck related websites. there's a bunch. here's a few to get you started. best of luck to you, and we'll be seeing you, i'm sure!! jon http://www.chevy.tocmp.com/ -chevy manuals online http://www.chevytrucks.org/ -lots of info http://www.stovebolt.com/ -more info http://www.chuckthetruck.com/ -lots of pics along the way http://1954advance-design.homeip.net/Documents.htm -'54 stuff, but a lot of it applies to all AD's. http://totallystainless.com/totally.html -fasteners http://166.82.96.3/homeframes.html -steele rubber http://www.obschevy.com/ -hard to find NOS parts there's more, but i'll save those unless you really need them. just let us know what you're looking for. oh, and to be honest, and i'm not affiliated with this company in the least, but classic parts of america (used to be chevy duty) has been the best all-around parts supplier i've found, other than NAPA. they're fair, easy to work with, and they sell good, quality parts (usually american made). that's my opinion, anyway. good luck!!
pss-- post some pictures!! we love to see pictures!! there's a description of how to do it in the archives somewhere. i know i wrote it out once. jon
Big 'Bolt NOOB ! WELCOME Oscar ! If this is your first project , resist the urge to take it all apart , it is much better to get it running and drivable so you can figure out what all it needs and then make up a realistic game plan from there ~ once it's all in tiny pieces , interest will wane faster than you can imagine . Good on ya for saving one of these Big 'Bolts as they're rapidly vanishing from our landsacape . Where are you located ? .
