    No hammer blows !!

You just place it on the shifter then twist it whilst lightly pressing down , as soon as it feels stiff , that's it .

A couple years ago I found a nifty RED shift knob I hoped to put on my Muncie SM420 but the threads were too large .

I oughta use some JB Weld in there...

I found that heating the shifter till it's just too hot to touch will let the knob slide right on and after it cools the plastic is bonded to the steel. Don't overheat or the knob will sag. A heat gun might work but I use the tiny pistol shaped propane torch that is usually used for soldering wire ends.

Nate, How about trying a small strip of leather over the shifter and then screwing on the knob-- no damage done and it can be removed.

thanks Nate, Evan, Glenn , my method of just pushing straight on to lever and then soft blows with hammer and block of wood was futile. trusting that someone here would help with a been there ,done that experience!
