Manual 3 0r 4speed?

    I have just pulled my manual tranny out of my 73' C/10 2WD I am trying to identify it. It has a L where the 1 should be on the shift knob is this a 3speed with Ganny Low or a 4 speed? Can I change 1st gear to I better ratio so it is not so low is this a Muncie truck tanny or a Saginaw I know it is stock and the truck has always had a 350 the #'s on the tranny are

    GM
    6273212 on the side of the main case and GM317 3901131 on the shifter body (toploader peice) any info greatly apreciated! Zach

    It sounds like you got a muncie [sm] 465 or 420 tranny. Could not tell you what one you have for sure but its either of those two, and GM said they were 4 spds. Karl

    well my opinion is that they are a 4spd but thats mine. i got the same type of tranny in my 61 i think its the 420.

    Thanks for the input guys I found out it is a Muncie sm465 tranny! And it is in great shape.
