I have a 66 chevy truck I am working on. It has 292 ci motor with a real low geared 4 speed automatic. I want to replace it with a higher speed automatic, if I can. The rear end has 3.73 gear ratio. If anyone has a suggestion let me know! Thank you

Sorry, I just re-read your post. 292 inliner? You should probably go with a TH350. If you are not planning on towing anything a lot, look at swapping out rear end ratios to something close to 308 or 330.

I would go with a 350/400 turbo. You could pick one up fairly cheap. You could then give it a little "added kick" with a B&M Sift Kit. The kit is about $30 and you can do it yourself in about 3 hours. I agree with the gear ratio change, if you want to cruise comfortably at highway speeds.
