8th Annual Car Show in Rio Linda Memorial Day weekend comes early this year and to honor all our veterans the weekend will kick off with the 8th Annual “Thunder in Depot Park Car Show & Exhibition” hosted by the Capitol Auto Club Inc. “Thunderbolts” of Sacramento. Once again this display of beautiful American rolling iron will be held on the green grass and under the shade trees and friendly confines of downtown Rio Linda’s Depot Park. This year’s event is presented by Roseville Rod & Custom who will have a large display of their award winning vehicles on hand including the newly crowned Street Rod D’Elegance winner from the 2009 GoodGuys Nationals at Delmar CA. The Thunderbolts expect more then 300 Hot Rods, Customs, Street Machines, Classics and other Specialty cars and trucks manufactured in America from the early 1900’s to some really new 2010 models. There will be a special display of straight 6 & 8 cylinders vehicles from the Inliners International Club along with displays of vintage and new race cars from the West Capital Raceway Alumni Assoc. The Sacramento Firebuffs Assoc. will display their vintage fire equipment along with modern equipment from Sacramento Metro Fire and the California Highway Patrol. The exhibitor area will feature an abundance of community service groups headed by the Rio Linda/Elverta Historical Society, Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce plus commercial booths sponsored by So Cal Speed Shop, PPC Powder Coat, Jerry’s Paint, Rust Bullet LLC, D-2 Trailer Sales, the Glassman, American Pastimes Hot Rod Shop and many more craft and merchandise displays. Cruise Inc. will provide the entertainment all day long starting at 8 am through the Parade of Champions Awards ceremony that starts at 3 pm. All entrants will vie for the Best of Show trophy and cash award sponsored by Tim’s Rod Shop of Rio Linda. The 2009 winner of the Gary Peter Memorial Award will be announced and the winner will be presented with a beautiful silver chalice and cash sponsored by Sweet-N-Simple Promotions of Reno, NV. Discount Automatics of North Sacramento is sponsoring the “22” Best of Event awards that all the entrants are eligible to win. Special “Pick” awards will be given by Tummy’s Sub Shop of Rio Linda and PoorBoys Perforamance Engines of Sacramento. The National Street Rod Associations “Safety Inspection Team” will also be on hand to inspect any vehicle in attendance and certify them NSRA safe whether they belong to the NSRA or not. This safety team will also award their “Team Safety Pick” plaque. All entrants to the Car show will receive a giant Goody Bag, a huge event program, an event dash plaque, and a chance to win one of over 200 guaranteed door prizes. Special one-off T-shirts featuring TBOLT member, Mike Clougher’s 1947 Chevy and a 50/50 cash raffle will also be available during the event. The host club will have their infamous “Thunder Dawgs” & “Bolts Tri-tip” sandwiches hot off the BBQ along with soft beverages available to all who attend. All years of American vehicles are welcome to attend. The entry fee is $20.00 and all spectators are of course “Free!” Early entry is suggested in order to receive a “Discount Coupon” for the event T-shirts but is not required.
