I have a 51 Chevy PU, which I could handle for the first 4 years, but now I need someone to give it a once over. It's been sitting for about 4 years and I can not find a mechanic that will take it on. Do any of you have a recommendation in San Diego?

    Welcome to the nuthouse

51 Chevy PU - What needs attention on your truck? I'm an office jockey, and my truck hadn't been running in 25+ years. Thanks to the encouragement and knowledge of many on this forum and couple of friends I've now got a daily driver. If you type what ails you (or your truck) ;) into SEARCH above you will begin to find some help. Then feel feel free to ask away and most important: post some photos of your truck.

    Welcome!

Welcome indeed! Advise is not cheap on this forum! We require 2 things! #1 and most important is pictures. We love pictures! Next is a real name, so we don't have to refer to you as 51ChevyPU!:D

If my math is correct, you've had this truck for at least 8 yrs, 4 that you "could handle" and 4 that it has been "sitting". In my opinion, that makes you more of an expert on your '51 than any mechanic you could find would be. Why don't you give it the once over?

Here is all you need. A copy of a shop manual, here's a link to an online version of it http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/index.htm a simple set of tools, and a wealth of information available to you by some very knowledgible folks on this forum. Most of these guys have "been there, done that" and bled on the T-shirts!

Give us particulars on your truck: is it original or modified? What issues you had the last time you drove it. What you expect out of it, etc etc!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Ken

    check list

    do a check list
should be easy if you say it ran when you parked it.
clean fuel tank and fuel line
    charge battery
prime carb and fire it up
a few hours and you should have it running like a top.
    drain and clean radiator.
    hope some of this helps.
tons of help here all you have to do is ask.

    Hi There !

What everyone else said ~ i've been working on & with these old trucks since they were just $25.00 Farm rigs , even if you killed it through neglect , they're dead simple to fix .

After telling us your name , include what kinda engine & tranny it has and the guys will walk you through it .

I saw an AD with 235 up @ the Pick-A-Part on The Mesa a while ago , parts pop up all over the place .
