Metal prep questions for emblems

I have a '56 3200 pickup and I would like to take the emblems and make them look good again. Some have pitting. How have some of you treated the metal to get them ready for new chrome?

Second question is aren't the emblems made out of stainless? If so, will chrome stick to them after coming back from plating?

emblems are pot metal,not stainless.Whatever the compositon of pot metal is-it is prone to corrosion.As far as I know,if you want to rechrome,a reputable chrome shop has a way of filling pits prior to chroming.
